Gatwick Airport seems to be taking advantage of the ongoing travel chaos at Britain’s largest airport, Heathrow, to attract major airlines to move transcontinental and other major flights to their hubs.
Emirates has become the most prominent airline ever to do so, as the Emirati airline confirmed on Friday it will increase the frequency of its services from London Gatwick Airport with a third daily flight starting Wednesday.
“This third daily flight will help meet the high demand from customers traveling to and from London this summer. It will also provide additional seats to accommodate Emirates passengers affected by capacity adjustments on flights from London Heathrow, which will be designed to help ease operating pressure at the airport,” the airline said in a statement sent to City AM. Regarding the ongoing turmoil at Heathrow, Emirates said, “Customers affected by the capacity adjustment at London Heathrow will be contacted directly by the airline or their travel agent.”

To emphasize how Gatwick is stepping up now that Heathrow has imposed a passenger limit of 100,000 passengers per day, Emirates said it is “grateful for the support of London Gatwick Airport, as well as other partners on the ground.” who are working closely with the airline to secure adequate ground handling resources to cope with the additional demand, and provide passengers with a smooth and reliable journey.”
Emirates also said it plans to resume five weekly flights to London Stansted from August 1, with daily services starting September.
