Decline of cryptocurrencies Bitcoin falls below $19,000

Cryptocurrencies fell during Wednesday's trading and Bitcoin fell below $19,000 to trade near 2022 lows, as expectations of a U.S. rate hike contributed to pulling liquidity out of the crypto market.

The MVIS Crypto Compact 100 Index, which specializes in tracking the performance of the largest cryptocurrencies, has fallen by about 60% this year so far.

Bitcoin fell 0.39% at $18,748.50 at 1:21 p.m. Mecca time, according to CoinPass data, after hitting its lowest level since June earlier in trading, recording a weekly loss of 6% so far.

The second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum, also fell 4.17% to $1510.58, and Ripple fell to 32 cents.

The global market capitalization of cryptocurrencies in the past twenty-four hours has fallen by 5.79 percent to $939.85 billion, according to CoinMarketCap data.
