Tesla to stop selling FSD software, will only offer subscription, Musk says

Elon Musk said on Wednesday that Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) will stop selling its “Full Self-Driving (FSD)” software from February, and will only offer the service as a monthly subscription.

Musk said in a post on X that Tesla will “stop selling FSD after Feb 14. FSD will only be available as a monthly subscription thereafter," likely referring to the one-time purchase option for the software.

Tesla currently offers FSD at a one-time purchase price of $8,000, or on a subscription basis at $99 per month, the company’s website showed. The company has steadily cut the prices of its subscription service in recent years, likely to boost adoption.

FSD is a software package offered with Tesla’s vehicles that adds more automated driving features on top of the pre-included autopilot features. But despite the name, the software is not fully autonomous, with Tesla including the “Supervised” disclaimer with its offering to imply that human intervention is required.

Musk has largely touted self-driving and robotics as the next big growth drivers for Tesla, as the electric vehicle maker grapples with two years of slowing car sales.
