Coinbase has strengthened its regional presence with a new strategic investment in CoinDCX, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in India, in a move that reflects renewed confidence in the growing crypto market in the region.
This investment comes after previous participations by Coinbase through Coinbase Ventures in CoinDCX's funding rounds, including the fourth round in 2022, which valued the platform at approximately $2 billion. Coinbase aims to enhance its presence in South Asian markets, which host over 100 million cryptocurrency users, focusing on innovation, regulation, and trust.
CoinDCX has over 20 million users and has recorded a transaction volume of $165 billion and assets under management worth $1.2 billion, alongside annual revenues of $141 million as of July 2025. These figures reflect the platform's capacity for sustainable growth and its ability to attract investors, which has bolstered Coinbase's confidence in its investment.
CoinDCX tested its operational resilience in July 2025 when it faced an internal breach resulting in a loss of $44 million, without affecting customer funds. The platform's credibility was enhanced by its swift recovery of services and retention of its earnings, contributing to Coinbase's decision to expand its investments in it.
This expansion aligns with Coinbase's strategy for 2025, which includes new projects in Web3, integrated funding with artificial intelligence, acquisitions like Deribit for derivatives, and investments exceeding $250 million in India to support startups and digital infrastructure, including CoinSwitch Kuber.
The investment comes at a time when India is moving toward formal regulation of the cryptocurrency market, with increasing institutional engagement and government interest in digital infrastructure. Coinbase has confirmed that this partnership will help make cryptocurrencies more accessible, useful, and reliable for users in the region.
