Euronext, the operator of European stock markets, has announced the launch of a new series of futures contracts linked to major European government bonds, in a move that reflects its strategy to strengthen its position in financial markets. The new products include French government bonds with a 10-year maturity, German bonds, Italian bonds, alongside other products aimed at supporting trading amid clear volatility in the markets.
Euronext confirmed that this step will not only provide investors with effective tools for risk management and hedging against fluctuations in the European bond market but will also support the company’s ambitious growth plans. This announcement comes at a sensitive time when the European market is experiencing volatility due to political uncertainty in France and the German government's plans to increase debt issuance, making these new contracts an essential tool for investors.
In official statements, Anthony Attia, Global Head of Derivatives at Euronext, stated that this initiative is a cornerstone of the strategic plan "Innovation for Growth 2027," emphasizing that the goal is to leverage Euronext’s unique presence in the trading ecosystem to offer innovative products that meet the changing market needs. He added that the launch of these contracts comes at a pivotal time for the European fixed income market, which is currently facing high levels of volatility.
In specific terms, the new contracts focus on 10-year French OAT bonds, German Bunds, Italian BTP bonds, Spanish Bono bonds, along with the launch of the first futures contracts for 30-year Italian BTP bonds. These futures have been listed on Euronext’s derivatives market in Milan, featuring a nominal value of €25,000, which is approximately $29,357, with cash settlement.
This direction is part of Euronext's efforts to reinforce its position as a key driver of European markets by providing new tools that enhance trading efficiency, attract more liquidity, and offer investors innovative solutions to keep up with rapid changes in the global market environment.
