India's merchandise trade deficit (INTRD=ECI), opens new tab in March stood at $21.54 billion, according to a Reuters calculation based on export and import data released by the government on Tuesday.
The latest figure was higher than economists expectation of $16 billion, according to a Reuters poll.
March's merchandise trade deficit rose from more than a three-year low trade deficit of $14.05 billion in the previous month.
The government said March exports stood at $41.97 billion, while imports were $63.51 billion, compared with $36.91 billion of exports in February and $50.96 billion in imports.
