The American president announced an immediate decision to raise the tariff on Chinese imports to 125%, indicating that this action is a direct response to what he described as China's disrespect for global market rules and its ongoing exploitation of the United States and other countries.
In his statement on Truth Social, the president said: "We hope at some point, preferably in the near future, that China will realize that the days of exploiting the United States and the world's nations are over and will no longer be tolerated in any form."
In a related context, the president revealed that more than 75 countries have contacted U.S. representatives, including the Department of Commerce, the Department of Treasury, and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, to begin negotiations related to international trade, trade barriers, currency manipulation, and non-tariff barriers. He clarified that these countries committed to not retaliating against the United States based on his direct recommendation.
Consequently, the president announced a 90-day negotiation period, which includes a significant and temporary reduction in mutual tariffs to just 10%, with this decision taking effect immediately.
The president concluded his statement by saying: "Thank you for your interest in this matter," indicating that these actions represent a clear message regarding the United States' commitment to protecting its commercial interests and striving for a more equitable and transparent global trading system.
