President of the United States Donald Trump made new statements late last night regarding the tariffs he imposed against major trade partners of the United States on April 2nd.
The main points from Trump's statements were as follows:
We are not considering stopping the tariffs. Japan needs to open up more. The United States will maintain a strong relationship with Japan. We only gave one chance in this matter. The tariffs could be permanent, but we do not rule out the possibility of discussions. We were close to reaching an agreement with China during my first term. Trade between the United States and the European Union should be fair and reciprocal. The European Union should buy energy from us. We are having meetings with Russia and Ukraine, and we are getting somewhat closer to an understanding.
